White House ousts Kimberly Guilfoyle as ambassador to Greece after misconduct allegations

Kimberly Guilfoyle resigned as the U.S. ambassador to Greece on Tuesday, hours after the White House asked her to leave amid allegations of financial misconduct and improper use of her position.

In a lengthy post on X, Guilfoyle denied allegations that she asked Eric Deters, a donor to President Donald Trump, to cover a $100,000 credit card bill in exchange for access to senior administration officials. She also faces accusations of threatening a Greek official and accepting improper gifts and services.

“These allegations are false,” Guilfoyle wrote, “and I intend to vigorously defend my name, my reputation, and my integrity. I have dedicated my professional life to fighting for justice, standing up for what is right, and defending the values that make America exceptional. I will not allow false accusations to define my decades of public service.”

But in comments to reporters on Tuesday, Trump said he “didn’t like what I read” about her alleged misconduct. He also distanced himself from Guilfoyle, even though she was engaged to his son Don Jr. for almost four years until late 2024.

“She wasn’t a member of my family,” Trump said. “She, I guess, dated my son a long time ago.”

Guilfoyle resigned shortly after White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia confirmed the administration wanted to replace her. “We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign,” Zacharia said. “She has been a wonderful asset, and we wish her well.”

Who is Kimberly Guilfoyle

Guilfoyle, 57, was one of the first people nominated as an ambassador in the second Trump administration. A one-time prosecutor in San Francisco and Los Angeles, she is the former wife of California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat.

She became a legal analyst for CNN and ABC News before joining Fox News in 2006, the same year she and Newsom divorced.

Guilfoyle was a host of the Fox show “The Five” when the network fired her in 2018 over questions about inappropriate workplace behavior, according to The New York Times. While still at Fox, she began dating Don Trump Jr., and they were engaged in 2020. She was a vocal supporter of the president, and spoke during both the 2020 and 2024 Republican conventions.
